Anaesthesia for small animals

Safety begins long before the procedure

Your pet’s safety is our highest priority during every anaesthetic procedure.

Every anaesthetic protocol is individually tailored to the patient. Age, weight, health status, existing medical conditions and breed-specific characteristics are carefully considered during planning.

This creates the foundation for the safest and gentlest treatment possible.

Balanced Anaesthesia

Balanced anaesthesia is a modern and particularly gentle anaesthetic technique that combines different medications and methods in a carefully coordinated way. It is considered the current standard in modern veterinary medicine and has largely replaced the former practice of using gas anaesthesia alone.

The procedure includes sedation and induction of anaesthesia by injection, followed by maintenance using modern inhalation anaesthesia. In addition, individually dosed medications and fluids are administered via computer-controlled syringe and infusion pumps.

Instead of relying on a single anaesthetic drug at a high dose, several medications are combined to provide pain relief, unconsciousness and muscle relaxation. This allows each medication to be used at a lower dose, reducing stress on the body while increasing the overall safety of the anaesthetic.

The precise administration of medication using modern syringe pumps allows the anaesthetic and pain management to be tailored exactly to each patient and the planned procedure.

Balanced anaesthesia can be individually adapted to your pet’s age, overall health and the type of procedure. This enables dogs and cats of all ages to benefit from the safest and most gentle anaesthetic care possible.

Advantages of balanced anaesthesia:

• Individual adjustment to age and health status
• High level of anaesthetic safety
• Optimal pain management
• Gentle anaesthetic care
• Reduced stress on the body
• Faster recovery after surgery

This approach enables safe anaesthesia, effective pain control and a comfortable recovery for your pet.

Your pet remains closely monitored at all times

Your pet is continuously monitored throughout the entire anaesthetic procedure.

Advanced monitoring equipment continuously measures:

  • Heart rate and heart rhythm
  • Oxygen saturation
  • Blood pressure
  • Respiratory rate
  • Carbon dioxide exhalation (capnography)
  • Body temperature
  • Tissue perfusion
  • Breathing depth and tidal volume

As gentle as possible, as safe as necessary

Our practice uses modern balanced anaesthesia techniques. Different medications are carefully combined to achieve the desired effect. This individualised approach allows lower dosages of each drug, improving tolerance and increasing safety.

For most surgical procedures, inhalation anaesthesia is used. This allows precise control of anaesthetic depth and supports a particularly smooth recovery.

Senior pets are in safe hands with us

Older pets, patients with pre-existing conditions and higher-risk patients are carefully assessed and safely guided through anaesthesia.

Modern technology, customised anaesthesia protocols and dedicated care from a trained anaesthesia team provide the best conditions for gentle treatment and a smooth recovery.

Less pain, better recovery

Effective pain management is an essential part of every surgical procedure.

When appropriate, we combine general anaesthesia with local pain management techniques. This helps reduce pain during the procedure and lowers the amount of anaesthetic required.

Well informed before the procedure

Many pet owners are concerned about anaesthesia before surgery. We are happy to answer your questions and explain both the procedure and the safety measures we use in our practice.
